Terms and conditions.
This is a thorough draft for counsel, not legal advice. A real-money betting platform’s terms must be reviewed by counsel licensed in the launch jurisdiction before anyone stakes a dollar.
The product.
FRODDS is social peer-to-peer betting. A group picks a curated prompt, fills only the blanks, the subject consents, and friends stake on a side. There is no house taking the other side. Payouts come from the pot.
Eligibility.
You must be 18 or older. We capture date of birth at signup and re-check age before a stake is committed.
Geographic eligibility is restricted. Real-money use requires a jurisdiction allowlist, a licensed operator, and a configured payments and KYC stack. Those conditions are not met in the default build.
Play-money is the default.
The service boots in PLATFORM_MODE=play. The ledger, stake reservation, fee capture, and settlement run in full. The payments adapter is mocked. Play-money can still be lost inside the product. It is not a toy copy of the rules.
PLATFORM_MODE=real is a later switch. It will not start without a payments provider, a KYC provider, and a jurisdiction allowlist.
Stakes and settlement.
All money is integer cents. We never use fractional dollars in the ledger.
The maximum stake on a position is $100.00 (10,000 cents), enforced on the server.
Host bets are parimutuel by default. totalPot is the sum of all stakes. winningPool is the sum on the winning side. losingPool is totalPot minus winningPool. The platform fee is min(floor(FEE_BASIS × PLATFORM_FEE_BPS / 10,000), losingPool). distributable is losingPool minus fee. Each winner receives their stake plus their share of distributable. Leftover cents from integer division are paid by the largest-remainder method, ordered by position id. The identity is exact: the sum of payouts plus the fee equals the total pot.
A pool with no stake on one side at betting close voids. Every stake is returned. There is no fee. That is a common case, not an edge case.
Three clocks apply to every bet, in this order: betting closes, then the outcome is knowable, then voting closes. Displayed payouts while a bet is open are estimates. They change as friends join.
Settlement posts to the ledger only after the dispute window, except immediate void refunds.
Consent.
If a prompt names a subject, that person must accept before the bet opens. Declined or withdrawn consent voids the bet and refunds stakes. No consent, the bet never opens.
Voting.
Eligible voters are all group members, not only bettors. The ballot is YES, NO, or VOID.
Votes are sealed on cast. Tallies stay hidden until voting closes.
Resolution requires both quorum (default 60% of eligible members) and a supermajority (default two-thirds of votes cast). VOID counts in the denominator. No quorum, no supermajority, or a VOID plurality voids the bet and refunds every stake with no fee.
The subject’s vote is recorded separately and shown. It does not decide the bet alone. Members with no stake are tallied separately as an audit signal.
No voting scheme is collusion-proof among friends who all have money on the answer. A rigged vote cannot take anyone’s money. It can only void the bet. Every ballot and tally sits in an immutable audit trail. The $100 cap bounds what is worth rigging.
Disputes.
After a result, DISPUTE_WINDOW_HOURS (default 24) must pass before funds are released. Any member can raise a dispute in that window. A dispute freezes settlement for review. Frivolous or abusive disputes can lead to limits or a closed account.
Fees and withdrawals.
The default fee basis is the pot at 500 basis points (5%), capped so the fee cannot exceed the losing pool. Withdrawals, holds, chargebacks, and tax reporting apply only in real mode and depend on the payments provider and the launch jurisdiction.
Prohibited conduct.
You may not:
- Use FRODDS if you are under 18 or in a place we do not allow.
- Create a bet whose prompt we did not author. You fill slots only. The skeleton is ours.
- Stake above the cap, evade KYC, or share an account.
- Harass, dox, or coerce a subject into consent.
- Tamper with evidence, clocks, or another person’s device.
- Attempt unauthorized access to accounts, the ledger, or our systems.
Accounts we close.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, fails eligibility, or presents abuse or fraud risk. Reserved stakes on open bets void and refund when we close the bet. Play-money has no cash value.
Liability.
Limitation of liability, indemnity, and mandatory arbitration or court venue are jurisdiction-dependent and must be written by counsel before real-money launch. This draft does not waive rights that cannot be waived where you live.
Governing law.
Governing law and venue depend on the licensed entity and the launch market. They are not set in this draft.
